FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER, CREATIVE ENDEAVOR HAS AROUSED A PASSIONATE, JOYFUL RESPONSE IN ME. IT HAS TAKEN ME MOST OF MY ADULT LIFE, AND A CAREER FAR AFIELD OF THE ARTS TO RECOGNIZE THAT THIS PASSION IS MY ULTIMATE SUSTENANCE. ONCE AN IMAGINATIVE CHORD HAS BEEN STRUCK, THE WORK EVOLVES THRU MANY PHASES, FREQUENTLY ENDING FAR FROM WHERE IT BEGAN.
I WORK IN OIL PAINT, WATERCOLOR AND PASTELS. I MODEL CLAY, I CARVE WOOD, I CARVE STONE.
Born in Philadelphia, Pa., Sept. 23, 1940, Jay Bosniak has been creatively driven since childhood. Artistic tendencies, apparant early, were nourished by parents and teachers who encouraged him to paint, draw and model clay. Free form woodcarving began spontaneously, at 16. Throughout an orthopedic surgical career, his artistic endeavors remained constant. Bosniak painted continuously in water and oil based media, and he began free form carving, in alabaster.
In the late eighties, he began the structured pursuit of the generic tools required in the professional’s arsenal; life drawing, painting and color theory, at Brookdale College, Lincroft, N.J. His first solo exhibition occurred in Red Bank, September 2000; his work has appeared at various New Jersey state art shows (2005, 2008, 2012). Since 1988, he has been a member of the Art Alliance of Monmouth County, Red Bank, N.J. He lives in West Long Branch, N.J.
