“Inspired by the American Arts and Crafts Movement, and artists such as Morris, Stickley, and Mackintosh, I believe in honesty in the piece, and showing the work. I don’t mind jutting bolts or tangled knots, as long as I end up with a good design.
“Junk, Chunks. Spools of rope. Nautical themes through a kaleidoscope. Arts and Crafts inspired. Parts with paths and wires. Climb aboard the metaphorical boat.”
Tim Donovan, is a Junk Sculptor and Musician from Manasquan, New Jersey, on the infamous Jersey Shore. He attended Virginia Tech's School of Visual Arts where he majored in Studio art with a concentration in 3D Media (Sculpture) and photography. His work is inspired by many things, bright colors, symbols and glyphs, lots of Picasso, the Arts and Crafts movement of the early 1900's (boasting artisans such as Stickley, Mackintosh, and the Green Brothers), organic architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright, land art by Andy Goldsworthy, Nautical themed kitsch found around my local beach area, and of course… Ancient Egypt.
Tim builds wall hangings, lamps, chairs, coat racks, beds, desks, jewelry boxes, stash boxes, basically anything you can think of, He can make for you, out of anything you wish. He also welds metal works, paint, stencil, carve things out of wax candles and make ceramic sculpture and pottery.
