BIO & STATEMENT
In the late 50's when dyslexia was called stupid, art in Catholic school was non-existent. Drawing and painting was self-taught. In public high school I became a permanent fixture in the art department, I thrived.
While playing music at night and doing consignment art, I was putting myself through /art School, The School of Visual Arts in NYC. During the late 60's, early 70's there was an artistic head explosion and implosion at the same time. Teachers were all practicing professionals; students were sharing ideas, my dreams were coming true.
As a painter I experimented with bas-relief, slowly leaving the canvas to full 3D sculpture, never looking back unless appropriate. Bronze being too pricey even then I began to experiment with fiberglass, resin and urethane foam being a brand new medium at the time. Wood was also affordable.
While on tour with the band, my fellow band members would let me carve their electric guitars to take the boredom away from being on the road.
Occasionally I would lend my skills to companies in trouble bringing their product to market like Disney, Marc Jacob, Warner Bros., Hard Rock Cafe, Etc. bringing their ideas and dreams to life is very satisfying.
Sooner or later music got in the way of my art, which was my drug of choice and I made the decision to make art my life.
Most of my creations were commissions and my original works were sold before they were even finished, but when you have a family and that's where the money comes from, it's hard to compile enough work to do Gallery Shows to get exposure. This is the first show I have done in the last 10 years, so I hope you enjoy my work.
