BIO & STATEMENT
"Color moves me. As an artist, I’m inspired by many things in life - beautiful landscapes, the perfect snowfall, flowers in bloom, seeing the innocence in a child’s eye. Even the negative things I encounter – the horror of the nightly news, inspire me to create. It’s my way of bringing color to a world that is sometimes so dark."
"Color is such a powerful entity in itself I don’t feel it’s necessary to add anything else to it. It’s my hope and desire to overpower people with my work - to have them lose themselves in what could be. I don’t think it can always be explained in words, it’s more of the deep feelings that one has when viewing it."
Kathleen began painting at the Ridgewood Art Institute in NJ at the age of 16 and studied there before entering college. In 1992 she received her BFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology, majoring in Graphic Design. Kathleen makes her living as a print and web designer.
"I love what I do but it often leaves me feeling empty and unsatisfied."
"When I paint, the only restrictions that I have to worry about are the ones I set for myself. This is where I am free – where possibilities are endless. I often say, “the brush made me do it” - because it’s true. I don’t always have an idea in mind when I start a painting. It’s more of a journey I’m about to embark on. I’m not sure of where I’m going, how I will get there or what obstacles I may come across while I’m on my way — that’s the challenge and the fun."
