BIO & STATEMENT
John Scafidi grew up and retired as an ESL teacher in Union City, NJ. John received a BA from Seton Hall University and an MA in Education from Hunter College, CUNY. After retirement he traveled and worked as a Senior English Language Fellow in Georgia, St Petersburg, Russia and Damascus, Syria where he consulted for US State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. John also spent considerable time in the Middle east and in the Philippines where he served as a Peace Corps volunteer. Presently he resides in Montreal and spends a great deal of time at his secluded cabin in the Adirondacks.
Although not formally trained in the arts, John has always experimented with painting especially with oils and acrylics. Now retired and spending long harsh winters in upstate New York he has been utilizing various mediums especially birch bark and other natural materials found in nature.
